Abstract

Purpose: The research aims to determine and analyze financial literacy, lifestyle and peers on financial behavior as well as locus of control as a moderating variable in students at the Faculty of Economics and Bussiness, Wijayakusuma University, Purwokerto. 


Methodology/ approach: The research method uses multiple linear regression analysis and moderated regression analysis. The population in this study were active students of the Faculty of Economics and Bussiness class 2020-2023, totaling 1,197 respondents with a sample set of 95 respondents. The sampling technique uses proportional cluster random sampling. 


Results/ Findings: The research results prove that financial literacy and lifestyle have a partially positive and significant effect on financial behavior among FEB students at Wijayakusuma University, peers do not influence financial behavior among FEB students at Wijayakusuma Purwokerto, locus of control does not moderate the influence of financial literacy, lifestyle and peers on financial behavior among FEB students at Wijayakusuma Purwokerto. 


Limitations: The limitation in this research is that the coefficient of determination (R Square) shows that the ability of the variables financial literacy, lifestyle, peers in explaining financial behavior variables is only 48.5%, the remaining 51.5% explains other variables not examined in this research, the results research states that the locus of control variable as a moderating variable does not moderate the independent and dependent variables in the study. There was one hypothesis that was rejected which was stated by peers as having no effect on the financial behavior of FEB students at Wijayakusuma University, Purwokerto. 


Contribution: Future research aims to add other variables that can influence financial behavior, such as gender, pocket money, financial attitudes, and research needs to be carried out again on other moderating variables on financial literacy, lifestyle and peers on financial behavior.
