Analysis of the Implementation of Circular Economy in Waste Management in Banyumas Regency in Supporting Sustainable Development Goals

Abstract

Purpose: This study seeks to examine the values associated with the implementation of a circular economy in waste management within Banyumas Regency and to assess its role in advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).


Methodology/approach: This research is included in a qualitative approach and uses circular economic theory as a grand theory to determine the value ​​of implementing circular economy-based waste management in supporting sustainable development in the Banyumas Regency. This research's subjects (informants) were determined using a purposive sampling technique with a total of thirteen informants. This research was conducted in Banyumas Regency. Research data was gathered by offline and online methods, utilizing participant observation techniques, in-depth interviews, and literature reviews. The analytical methods employed to address the first purpose are content analysis (CA), whereas relational content analysis (RCA) is utilized for the second objective.


Results/findings: The research findings indicate that eight waste management ideas in Banyumas Regency align with sustainable development principles. This research results show that the circular economy has excellent potential to be developed to support sustainable development so that results are obtained in the form of a sustainable development concept based on a circular economy to realize inclusive prosperity following the social pillars, economic pillars, environmental pillars and legal pillars that exist in sustainable development goals.


Limitations: This research has several limitations that need to be considered to provide a more holistic perspective, including the approach tends to focus on qualitative analysis that has not been fully accommodated, the data used in this research is local and cannot be generalized to other regions without further modification, and not identified the institutional and regulatory barriers.


Contribution: It is hoped that this research can enrich insight and provide valuable scientific contributions to the development of the scientific discipline as a whole, which is expected to broaden horizons and open up further research opportunities. In addition, this research can guide stakeholders in planning and implementing sustainable development in the Banyumas Regency and other areas.


Novelty: This research comes with the novelty of finding circular economy values ​​in waste management in Banyumas, which are closely related to supporting the four pillars of sustainable development goals, not just focusing on one to produce a concept of findings that can be adopted in other regions as a catalyst for achieving sustainable development based on waste management in Indonesia.
